MLB columnist on Red Sox: "They might not have a future MLB starter anywhere on their full-season rosters"

It has been a tough year for Chaim Bloom and the Boston Red Sox. The club's Chief Baseball Officer has been under heavy pressure over the past few months. Boston's poor results (they finished last in the American League East), combined with a lack of big-name signings, have created a headache for the executive.

The Red Sox were the team to beat in 2018. They finished the regular season with a whopping 108 wins and cruised to the World Series where they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. Since then, however, the team has been on a steady decline and has lost ground to their rivals.

The Red Sox now have a new issue on their hands. Per a recent article by Keith Law in The Athletic, the club has one of the worst ranked farm systems in the league.

"Keith Law from The Athletic ranks the Red Sox Farm System 23rd in the Majors or the 8th worst, not a good look at all." - Boston Strong

The MLB columnist ranked the organization twenty-third in the league rankings. The club does have four of the top 100 prospects, with No. 9 ranked Marcelo Mayer their top prospect.

The issue for Law revolves around the fact that none of those four players are pitchers. He referred to the club's pitching prospect group as "one of the weakest" in the league.

The Boston Red Sox will rely on developing young talent after losing several big-name players

The Boston Red Sox have lost several stars over the past few seasons. Xander Bogaerts recently signed a colossal 11-year, $280 million contract with the San Diego Padres. Five-time All-Star J.D. Martinez also opted for a change of scenery, signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The exodus of talent means the club will rely heavily on their young players. They will hope to develop some of their lesser-known prospects into major league players.

".@keithlaw ranked all 30 MLB farm systems. Once again, the Dodgers rise to the top." - The Athletic

Boston currently has two players ranked amongst the top 85 prospects. They have only four players in the top 100. In comparison, the Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians both have seven. The Texas Rangers hold six of the top 100 prospects.

The pressure will be on for Chaim Bloom and the management to find a winning formula. The re-signing of Rafael Devers will go a long way to solidifying the offense, but questions remain on the pitching front.
