Long ago, the MLB All-Star Game featured all players on the diamond and in the dugout/bullpen wearing the uniform of their own team instead of the ASG jerseys that are made now. Each player had his own jersey on, which made for a colorful and interesting experience for fans. That's something MLB commissioner Rob Manfred believes might be on its way back.

Nike produces All-Star Game jerseys every year, giving the teams a unified look while adding the logo of each club to the jersey of the player. It was an attempt to be unique while keeping consistency in how the players look on the field.

MLB reporter Evan Grant said that Manfred confirmed that there "will be conversations" about moving back to that jersey style and added:

"I'm aware of the sentiment."

Fans have long asked for MLB players to wear their own team jerseys to the game. This would mean that Aaron Judge would be in the lineup with his New York Yankees jersey opposite Gunnar Henderson and his Baltimore Orioles uniform.

Why does Nike make All-Star Game jerseys?

This is the fourth straight year that Nike produces the jerseys worn in the All-Star Game. They're always unique, and they try to emulate the city the game is being played in. In this case, it's Arlington, the home of the Texas Rangers.

Most sports have tried this at one point or another. The Pro Bowl has had its unique jerseys, as has the NBA and NHL All-Star Games. In the past, players have just worn their normal uniforms.

The primary reason for creating these custom jerseys each year is financial. They can sell them for a lot of money, and there is some novelty and rarity to each one. The All-Star jersey from 2023 isn't valid anymore, so anyone who bought it has something special.

However, that could be changing soon. There have been rumors for a while, but Rob Manfred has now confirmed that the league will look into reverting to the old style again.
