Team Japan has begun their preparations for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, and the team is stacked with talent. Led by international superstar Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese boast one of the top starting rotations in the tournament. The team is extremely strong on the defensive side and will enter as one of the favorites to win it all.
Shohei Ohtani may be the headline name on the roster, but manager Hideki Kuriyama will have plenty of options to choose from. MLB analyst Jon Morosi called this "the best team Japan rotation we have ever seen in this tournament."

Joining Ohtani is San Diego Padres veteran pitcher Yu Darvish. The 36-year-old was part of the team that won the tournament in 2009. Darvish excelled in the Japanese league and has thrived in the majors. He is a five-time All-Star and led the National League in wins in 2020.
MLB fans were excited to see a recent video of both Shohei Ohtani and Yu Darvish together. Fans took to Twitter to discuss how good this team is and if they can go all the way.
Roki Sasaki, who plays for the Chiba Lotte Marines, has also been selected for the tournament. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the rising stars of the Japanese League (NPB).
Highly-rated 24-year-old righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto will round out a rotation that can compete with any team in the World Baseball Classic.
Team Japan will bring a star-studded rotation as they aim to win their third World Baseball Classic title

Japan is the only nation to have won multiple World Baseball Classic tournaments. They won the first edition of the tournament in 2006, and repeated the feat in 2009. The team also finished in third place in 2017.
Team Japan will play in Pool B alongside South Korea, China, Australia and the Czech Republic.
The fact that Japan will be hosting the prestigious tournament will only increase their chances of winning. The fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic will be jointly hosted by Japan, Taiwan and the United States. The tournament is set to begin on March 8.
Shohei Ohtani will be the main attraction, but the Japanese pitching staff has depth, experience and quality. Japan is in search of their third WBC title and will likely be one of the last teams standing in the tournament.
