In another MLB encounter with birds, Cleveland Guardians' Will Brennan hit a lin drive that accidentally killed one in the game against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions about the even,t as there were calls for animal safety on baseball grounds.
In the top of the second innings with no outs, Brennan came to bat. The rookie hit a hard line drive grounder that seemed to unfortunately hit a bird seated near the third base. The pitch was made at 92.6 mph, and the ball had left Bennan's bat at a speed of 100.1 mph.
Players on the pitch looked quite distraught after the bird-hitting event. Chicago White Sox's Jesse Scholtens reached out to check whether the bird was still alive. The 25-year-old Guardians batter had a sorry reaction as he reached first base.
After the game, Brennan took to Twitter to issue an apology to ease his discomfort about the incident.
"I truly am sorry @peta and bird enthusiasts. An unfortunate sacrifice." Brennan wrote via Twitter.
Guardians fans took to social media as they made light of the situation with their quirky reactions. One said:
"That should be a fowl ball!"

Guardians' bird incident not the only one recently
Within a span of one week, the MLB has seen two unfortunate living beings pass away due to a game of baseball.
Last Thursday, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen was warming up before the game against the Oakland Athletics. He threw a curveball towards his catcher that mistakenly hit a bird.
“I don’t really know what happened, honestly,” Gallen had said. “I just know that the ball changed directions really. I saw what happened. It’s kind of a freak accident. It’s unfortunate."
Considering such freak accidents, it's imperative for the MLB to take some steps to clear out the ground before regular baseball can run its course, especially if animals' life is in danger.
