MLB fans mock the Tampa Bay Rays after banner honoring club's mediocre 2022 season

The Tampa Bay Rays are a relatively young organization. Since their inception in 1998, the club has had their share of success. Although they have never won a championship, the Rays have reached the World Series on two occasions (2008, 2020). They also have four American League East titles to their name.

The organization has also secured a Wild Card birth on four different occasions. It is a fact that they want the whole world to know. The Rays are getting roasted online for their latest stadium banner, which celebrates a very mediocre achievement.

Despite finishing third in their division, the Rays were able to secure a spot in the 2022 MLB postseason. They finished 13 games behind the New York Yankees and seven games behind the Toronto Blue Jays.

MLB fans took to Twitter to mock the club for honoring a very unremarkable accomplishment. Fans also provided a few more examples of embarrassing stadium banners.

The original tweet compared the banner to an old Indianapolis Colts banner. The Colts hung a "2014 AFC Finalist" banner. They lost out to the New England Patriots 45-7 that year in a game most of their fanbase would like to forget.

Some fans pointed out that several MLB teams hung up Wild Card banners, though it was nothing to be proud of. Another fan called the banner "MLB's participation banner."

The Tampa Bay Rays did qualify for the playoffs last season but performed poorly in the Wild Card series. After edging out the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles, they were swept by the Cleveland Guardians.

The past few years have been a rollercoaster ride for Rays fans. Since reaching the World Series in 2020, the club has failed to win a playoff series. Several of the team's key players have returned this year and will be looking to bounce back with a deep playoff run in 2023.
