The Houston Astros showed their appreciation for Miguel Cabrera before their game on Wednesday. The legendary slugger, who is retiring after the season, can act out his inner cowboy now.
The Astros gifted the Detroit Tigers star a cowboy hat, wine and champagne, all signed by the team. This was the first gift he received from another club. Expect more teams to do this throughout the season.
Cabrera seemed to enjoy the gifts that he received as he thanked the members of the Astros as well as the crowd in attendance. There's a ton of mutual respect between Cabrera and the Astros.
Whenever a team gifts a player with something on their farewell tour, it's always a sight to see. It's fantastic to see a team celebrating a player who doesn't play for their organization.
"Classtros???" one fan tweeted.
"Good move, hope every team does something for him," another fan tweeted.
MLB fans are happy to see a team like the Houston Astros do something like this for Miguel Cabrera. He's undoubtedly made his mark after playing 21 seasons.
Fans mentioned how awesome it was that he immediately thanked the Astros and the crowd in attendance. It was pure class from both sides.
Miguel Cabrera was close to being a member of the Houston Astros once upon a time
Miguel Cabrera was very close to becoming a member of the Houston Astros a while back. In 2016, the team looked around for some help at first base and DH. The deal ultimately never fell through, as Cabrera stuck with the Detroit Tigers.
Cabrera is entering his 21st season with the Tigers. It's not often you see an athlete of any sport spending their entire career with one team. Detroit fans who bought Cabrera's jersey when he first debuted sure got their money's worth.
He has had a wonderful MLB career full of accomplishments and awards. To start off, he is a 12-time All-Star, two-time AL MVP and the 2012 Triple Crown Award winner. He's also a seven-time Silver Slugger, four-time AL batting champ, two-time AL home run leader and two-time AL RBI leader.
He's a member of the 3,000 hit club and 500 home run club. There's not much he hasn't accomplished in his long career with the Tigers. Cabrera will go down as one of the best first basemen to ever do it.
