MLB is doing everything in its power to speed up the game. From the pitch clock to the time that hitters get in between innings, Rob Manfred has taken an interest in shortening the length of games.
Many could say he's taking this a step too far in his latest memo to all the teams in the league. Manfred alerted teams that new standards would be enforced for batboys and batgirls this season. They will be monitored on their ability to retrieve equipment quickly. They can be replaced if they fail to perform quickly enough.

It's a ton of pressure for somebody who doesn't make much money. This move from Manfred seems really over-the-top and unnecessary. No game has ever been hindered by a batboy or batgirl's ability to pick up equipment quickly. Most fans don't even notice them.
There are way more pressing concerns that Manfred should be worried about, like ending blackout restrictions. That would attract more fans than pressing batboys and batgirls to do their job faster.
"They're going to ask to replace the batboys and batgirls for their performance, but they refuse to replace umpires for their performance. This is absolutely ridiculous, cherry-picking minute 'issues' and avoiding the major ones," one fan tweeted.
"Dang! The obssession with time is hardcore!" another fan tweeted.
MLB fans can't believe this is what Manfred thinks needs to be addressed. They think he's trying to change way too much in such a short amount of time.
Fans don't like the road Manfred is going down. Soon, he may eliminate in-between warmups or shorten up the count to two strikes as a strikeout to save time.
MLB could tweak its new rules ahead of Opening Day

The league sent out a memo to all MLB teams earlier this week advising them that some tweaks to the new rules could be coming. The memo discussed additional time on the pitch clock and more time between batters.
The league doesn't necessarily want to see hitters like Pete Alonso sprinting across the diamond after the third out to prepare for their at-bat. The last thing the league wants to see is a player getting hurt because of the new rules put in place.
It will be interesting to see if Manfred tweaks any of the rules in the coming days. He doesn't have much time as Opening Day is approaching.
