J.D. Davis once again finds himself on an MLB roster as the veteran infielder has reportedly reached an agreement with the Baltimore Orioles. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the 31-year-old didn't have to wait long to secure a new contract after being released by the New York Yankees last week.

After Davis was released, many believed that the third baseman would be signed quickly. Davis has become a journeyman in recent years, joining multiple clubs over the past few seasons. The Baltimore Orioles will be the third club for Davis this year after starting the 2024 season with the Oakland Athletics.

Davis could slide into a potentially prominent role with the Orioles following the injuries to both Jorge Mateo and Jordan Westburg. Even though the club called up top infield prospect Coby Mayo, he has struggled to make an impact in his first few major league games.

J.D. Davis could play a key role for the Orioles if he can regain his 2023 form

Davis has struggled this season; however, his inconsistent playing time could be a contributing factor. Davis is coming off a strong 2023 campaign with the San Francisco Giants which saw him post a .248 batting average, with 18 home runs and 69 RBIs. If he can turn back the clock to last season's form, he could be an intriguing addition for the Orioles.

Davis has been a solid on-base contributor throughout his career and should be able to provide the Orioles with some quality at-bats in his position at the bottom of the batting order. Fellow Orioles third basemen Coby Mayo and Ramon Urias have been slotting in at the bottom of the order, so he will likely find himself in a similar spot when he is in the lineup.

Davis' defensive versatility should also help him get in the lineup, as the former Yankee can play a number of different positions around the diamond. This will also allow the Orioles to give some of their top stars some time off as the postseason appraoches. It's an intriguing addition for a promising Orioles club who is seeking their first World Series title since 1983.
