Todd Helton, Adrian Beltre, Jim Leyland and Joe Mauer are the latest inductees to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Their induction ceremony was conducted at the Clark Sports Center in front of thousands of fans.
One by one, starting with Helton, all four took turns on the podium to express their gratitude and cheers while receiving the honor of being placed among the MLB's finest. The careers of all four inspired a generation of baseball players, and their contributions even after retirement will serve a good path for up and coming players.
Boston Red Sox legend David 'Big Papi' Ortiz opened his arms to welcome the new inductees.
Regarded as one of the greatest third base of all time, Adrian Beltre has had a Hall of Fame career that includes four All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards and five Silver Slugger honors. Known for his time with the Rangers, the club retired his No. 29 jersey.
Todd Helton, meanwhule, played his entire 17-year major league career with the Colorado Rockies who drafted him eighth overall in 1995. His Hall of Fame resume features five All-Star selections, three Gold Glove awards, four Silver Sluggers, a recipient to Dick Howser Trophy and his No. 17 jersey retired by the Rockies.
Another Hall of Famer who played his entire career with one team is Joe Mauer, who played 15 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. That saw him become a six-time All-Star, AL MVP (2009), three-time Gold Glove winner and five-time Silver Slugger Award.
Jim Leyland, a legendary manager, won the World Series with the Florida Marlins. He won the Manager of the Year three times and also coached Team USA in their gold medal triumph in 2017 World Baseball Classic.
David Ortiz broke with Adrian Beltre's "no touching my head" policy
During his time in the majors, Adrian Beltre hated those who touched his head and established a no-touching head policy. However, that wasn't the case on Saturday, as his former teammate and closed friend David Ortiz did exactly that during his Hall of Fame induction speech.
“Even though I don’t love it, I don’t like it, but I feel like I’m open to people to be able to play around with me. Big Papi and I, we go way back before we even signed a contract," Beltre said about the gesture from 'Big Papi.'
Adrian Beltre added that he feels grateful to have David Ortiz's presence at his induction ceremony.
