Some positives and negatives in today's MLB injury update. Texas Rangers' Jacob deGrom is closer to his return, while the Yankees and Mariners lineups suffered blows with Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Julio Rodriguez. A deeper look into the updates:

#1, Jazz Chisholm Jr. set to undergo 10-day IL

The Yankees played the waiting game on Wednesday after trade deadline acquisition Jazz Chisholm Jr. was scheduled to have MRI for a UCL injury. After the results came out, the Yanks believe that Chisholm, a star third baseman, will be out of the lineup for a maximum of ten days.

Because the injury is to his non-throwing left arm, Chisholm is expected to go through the rehab-and-rest approach instead of surgery. That gives him a better chance at returning this season. Chisholm, acquired from the Miami Marlins, has already had an impact for the team with 11 RBIs in 14 games, including 7 home runs.

#2, Julio Rodriguez aggravates right ankle sprain

Julio Rodriguez was removed from the Mariners' game against the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning. He was suspected to have tweaked his right ankle sprain that kept him out of action since late July. J-Rod was placed on the 10-day IL before returning on Sunday to the lineup as the designated hitter, a role he was supposed to continue until he is deemed completely fit.

Per manager Scott Servais, the star outfielder suffered the injury during his at-bat in the eighth, but was able to hit an RBI-single as he trodded to first base before being replaced by a pinch runner. Rodriguez is currently being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

#3, Jacob deGrom has second live hitter session

Things have started to look better for Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom. The 4x All-Star has been on the shelf since last season after tearing a ulnar collateral ligament that required Tommy John surgery. He was 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA when he went on the injury list.

Per team manager Bruce Bochy, his second live hitting session means deGrom is closer to a return, but he cannot yet be placed under a definite date. It is expected that the Rangers might target an early September return to the mound.
