Today’s injury report is mostly covered with the New York Mets’ updates, as they made several roster upgrades, including the reactivation of Kodai Senga. Meanwhile, Milwaukee Brewers’ All-Star Christian Yelich is determined to complete this season.
Infielder Royce Lewis is all set to help the Minnesota Twins, while Starling Marte is on the road to a steady recovery. These injured players will significantly impact the team's approach toward the trade deadline, which will close on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
MLB Injury Update: July 26
Royce Lewis
During the Twins' series against the Detroit Tigers, Royce Lewis left the game after experiencing discomfort in his left groin and was later placed on a 10-day injured list with a right adductor strain.
After completing his rehab with Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, he was set to make a comeback. On Friday, the team announced Lewis’ return to the team while optioning catcher Jair Camargo to the minors.
Starling Marte
Starling Marte has been out of the game for a month now. The outfielder got injured with a bone bruise in his right knee during the series against the Chicago Cubs last month. His condition is improving, and Marte could start the running program as early as this week, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
However, rejoining may take time as he’ll have to complete rehab programs before that.
Kodai Senga
Finally, the wait is over for the Mets’ star ace, Kodai Senga. Since his 2.98 ERA performance last season, the fans have eagerly anticipated his return. Senga, who got injured in February with a shoulder strain and nerve Inflammation, took months to heal but has now been reactivated by the Mets. He’s expected to start his first game of the year on Friday against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.
On corresponding moves, right-handed Adrian Houser and Shintaro Fujinami have been designated for assignment. While Eric Orze has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and Dedniel Núñez was placed on 15-day IL with a right pronator strain injury.
Christian Yelich
Christian Yelich, following a mid-season injury from April to May earlier this season, rebounded well and even got invited to his third career All-Star event. However, the Brewers left fielder hasn’t been completely over with his injury issue.
On Wednesday, Yelich was returned to a 10-day IL with low-back inflammation, which he has been facing for a long time. However, the All-Star isn’t willing to end his season yet. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Yelich will continue to rest and complete his rehab program in the hope of joining the lineup later in the season rather than undergoing a possible season-ending surgery now.
He might be considering to have the surgery in the offseason, a source told Rosenthal.
