It's that time of the season when injuries can derail the momentum of MLB teams as they try to make the postseason. Thursday saw many MLB teams receive important injury updates.
While the Yankees got back their catcher, the Brewers lost their star player to a season-ending injury. Without any further ado, let's get to it:
#1 Yankees take Jose Trevino off the injured list
The Yankees catcher missed 26 games and about a month's time with a left quad injury, having last played a game against the Baltimore Orioles on July 12. On Thursday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Trevino would return this Friday from rehab assignments.
In the absence of Trevino, Austin Wells has emerged as a cleanup hitter. This suggets that despite Trevino's entry, he may not get as much game-time at the tail end of the season.
Before hitting the injured list, Trevino batted .244 along with eight home runs and 27 RBIs.
#2 Christian Yelich to undergo season-ending surgery
The Milwaukee Brewers' All-Star outfielder "ran out-of-options" in his bid to return later this year and continue the club's surprisingly good season.
On Thursday, Christian Yelich announced that he'll undergo a season-ending back surgery on Friday, after a month-long desperate effort to return.
“It just got to the point where it wasn’t getting better,” Yelich said. “I tried everything I could. I ran out of options and it came time to make a decision.”
Yelich missed around 24 games between April and May due to kower back issue. Even despite playing the MidSummer Classic at Globe Life Field, his back discomfort flared up, and he could only stitch 1-19 till July 24.
This is when he decided to address this issue fully, going off on IL. In 73 games played this season, he has slashed .315/.406/.504 along with 11 homers and 21 stolen bases.
