The New York Mets made a statement this offseason. The club spent a record amount on bringing in and retaining talented players. After a strong start to the season, the Mets fell short of their ultimate goal of a World Series title. This has led to numerous changes to the roster.

Free agents Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Jose Quintana were brought in to solidify the pitching rotation. David Robertson will provide some depth to the bullpen. Catcher Omar Narvaez and outfielder Tommy Pham will provide additional options for an already potent offense.

MLB insider Jon Morosi recently provided his views on the New York Mets' chances in 2023:

"You think about the Braves comparing to the Mets, I like the Mets lineup"

Speaking to MLB Network, Morosi insists the Mets are the team to beat in the National League East. In his latest breakdown of the division, the analyst rates the Mets lineup highly after an exciting offseason.

Along with the free agent signings mentioned above, the Metropolitans also re-signed a host of players. Edwin Diaz was the most notable of those players, agreeing to a five-year, $102 million deal to remain in Queens. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo will also return for his eighth season with the club.

The New York Mets have invested heavily and will aim to win their first championship since 1986

The New York Mets last reached a World Series in 2015, losing out to the Kansas City Royals. Standing in the way of the New Mets and their first World Series in 36 years lie the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.

The Braves have been quiet this offseason but have a talented roster. They finished ahead of the Mets last season and have won the NL east for five consecutive years. The club have retained a lot of their players from the 2021 championship side.

The Phillies will look to repeat as National League champions in 2023. Despite finishing third in the division last season, Philadelphia made a deep run in the playoffs before eventually losing out to the Houston Astros in the World Series. Led by Bryce Harper, the team is stacked with talent on all sides.

Steven Cohen has invested heavily with the goal of bringing a championship to Queens. Nothing less will suffice. The pressure will be on Buck Showalter and this new-look New York Mets team to win it all in 2023.
