In the last week of January 2023, MLB legend Billy Wagner's son Will was invited to Houston Astros camp as a non-roster player. The 24-year-old Liberty University graduate was selected in the 18th round of the 2021 draft and was promoted to minor league Double-A last season.
In a clip shared by Mark Berman, the Sports Director of Fox 26, Will acknowledged his father's role in helping him earn a non-roster spot with the Astros.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’re the reason I’m here. He’s got me through a lot and I wouldn’t be here without him.”
Billy Wagner believes his son has earned the spot and will continue to excel at what he’s doing. The MLB legend added that Will is lucky to get the opportunity to play alongside reigning World Series champions Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve.
