MLB Mock Draft 2024: Predicting Dodgers' first pick

The 2024 MLB Draft is now less than one month away and it is never too early to start looking into some of the top prospects of the class. The Cleveland Guardians will be in the envious position of having the number one overall pick, followed by the Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, and Oakland Athletics.

The MLB Draft is a difficult one to predict, even among teams with the top picks. Unless there is a world-class, can't-miss prospect such as Bryce Harper or Stephen Strasburg, predicting which players will be selected when is a difficult task.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, they will enter the event with the 23rd overall pick. Undoubtedly, the front office will have a number of players that they will be interested in, however at that point of the draft, they may need to adjust their board several times depending on who is still available.

Who will be the Los Angeles Dodgers' first pick in the 2024 MLB Draft?

When determining where the Dodgers will lean this year, one must consider the organization's needs first. One of the areas of weakness for the Los Angeles Dodgers is shortstop, which makes Kellon Lindsey an intriguing target with the 23rd overall pick.

Currently, the Dodgers have been relying on Mookie Betts as the team's lead shortstop. Betts is one of the best players in the league, however, having him to play out of position may be too much to ask, especially as he gets older. This is where Kellon Lindsey could come into play.

A senior at Hardee High School in Wauchula, Florida, Lindsey comes in a 6'2" and 175lbs. His size could help him develop into a more powerful player as he currently does not project too much of a home run threat, but his hitting ability is above average. Once he continues to grow, his frame could allow him to add more power to his game. He is also a speed threat on the basepaths.

Lindsey has also continued to improve defensively. As a former quarterback, Lindsey already has an above-average arm and an increasingly polished defensive game. The shortstop has already committed to play baseball for the University of Florida, which has already produced effective MLB infielders such as David Eckstein, Jonathan India, and Pete Alonso.

At this point of the 2024 MLB Draft, Kellon Lindsey could turn out to be a steal for the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, at the 23rd pick, it remains to be seen if Lindsey will still be on the board.
