Top 5 MLB Pitching Matchups - July 6

Hunter Brown vs Joe Ryan

After a rough start to the season, Hunter Brown's 0.29 over the past month is the best among all MLB starters. On Saturday, the 25-year-old will be looking to pick up his sixth win in as many attempts against the Minnesota Twins.

After adding a lethal two-seamer to his arsenal, Brown has dominated, allowing just one earned run in his past 31 innings. Now 6-5 on the season, Brown has lowered his ERA to 4.07.

For the Twins, Joe Ryan will be looking to break his 5-5 record. After allowing one earned run in 5.2 innings in his last start against the Mariners, Ryan has a 3.21 ERA in 103 innings of work.

Freddy Peralta vs James Paxton

The Dodgers will send veteran Canadian James Paxton to the mound against the Milwaukee Brewers as they look to go ahead 2-0 in the series on Saturday.

Since inking a one-year, $7 million deal this offseason, Paxton is 7-2 with a 4.28 ERA through 15 starts this season. Although he has been largely effective, Paxton had the worst start of the season on June 30, when he was chased after just four innings for being charged with nine earned runs against San Francisco.

Milwaukee will get the chance to show off one of their best starters in Freddy Peralta. Now 6-4 on the season, Peralta helped to pad his 3.83 ERA with a seven-inning, one-run performance against the Chicago Cubs in his last outing. In four career games against the Dodgers, Peralta is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA.

Ranger Suarez vs Spencer Schwellenbach

After an 8-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday, the Phillies will send Ranger Suarez to the mound on Saturday.

Now in his seventh season with the Phillies, Ranger Suarez is on set for a career year. In addition to his 10-2 record, the Venezuelan's 2.27 ERA leads MLB among starters, and his 0.999 WHIP ranks eighth overall.

The Braves will be putting forth rookie Spencer Schwellenbach. The 24-year-old Michigander has struggled to a 5.68 ERA in six starts for Atlanta this season. In his last start against the Pirates, Schwellenbach was pulled after he allowed four earned runs in five innings.

David Peterson vs Bailey Falter

Although the last two weeks have saddled the New York Mets with one of the worst ERA figures in baseball, their starter on Saturday has not been complicit.

David Peterson will make his seventh start of the season. Now 3-0, the undefeated 28-year-old has fared well against Pittsburgh. Throughout six career innings, the former relief arm has nine strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh will send 27-year-old Bailey Falter to the mound. The former Phillies draft pick is having a career season and is now 4-6 with a 3.87 ERA. Falter will be seeking to improve his 1.143 WHIP figure, which is already significantly lower than his 2023 value.

John Winckowski vs Gerrit Cole

26-year-old John Winckowski will be making his 20th career start as the Red Sox look to solidify their sixth straight win against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

Winckowski's eleven earned runs allowed in 35 innings of work gives him a respectable 2.80 ERA to accompany his 2-1 record on the season. In his last start, the Ohio native stood tall, tossing five shutout innings against the San Diego Padres.

Defending AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole has struggled since returning from injury in June. Now 1-1, Cole's 6.23 comes as a result of him allowing nine earned runs in 13 innings. Moreover, Cole has struggled against Boston throughout his MLB career and brings a 4.68 ERA into his 18th career game against the divisional foe.
