MLB the Show 23 is set to be released this spring and details about the game are becoming clearer. The cover athlete, Jazz Chisholm, has been revealed as has the alternate edition featuring Derek Jeter. Many of the game's features have been teased, such as the inclusion of the Negro Leagues.
A few more features have just been confirmed, too. According to Twitter user Fuzzyfromyt, the game will have a new competitive mode, universal DH, two-way players like Shohei Ohtani and more.
MLB the Show was already a massive gaming franchise, but MLB the Show 23 has a chance to easily be the best release from the franchise. While other sports franchises (Madden, 2K) have been accused of stagnation, The Show continues to get better.
The Universal DH is a reflection of Major League Baseball. It was a recent rule change that effectively ended pitchers being forced to bunt or strike out every three innings. It's now being reflected in the video game.
Two-way players are now much more prominent thanks to Ohtani. The previous release of the game allowed players to play their Road to The Show mode as a two-way player if they wanted, but they often ended up doing one or the other.
This will be a much more prominent aspect of the game and could potentially be a mainstay in the series if players like Ohtani continue to come to the big leagues.
There are quite a few modes to play on MLB the Show 23 and a few of them are getting revamped. The competitive mode will be changed. This was one of the most popular game modes, so a change is welcome.
Ranked co-op with good rewards will also likely entice more players to get involved with that game mode. Right now, it seems as if MLB the Show can do no wrong.
What platforms is MLB the Show 23 on?
For a long time, MLB the Show was a PlayStation exclusive. This meant all other gamers had to settle for RBI Baseball or Super Mega Baseball to get their virtual baseball fix. Although the popular game is not available on PC, avid gamers can play MLB The Show 23 on a variety of other platforms.
Now, it's available on PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series S/X and the Nintendo Switch.
