The St. Louis Cardinals shook the MLB landscape after being part of a three-team deal that saw the team land a pair of veterans, Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham, from the Chicago White Sox. The Cardinals were seeking an upgrade to their pitching rotation and may have addressed some of their concerns with the deal.

That being said, it seems unlikely that the team is done shopping for talent. The Cardinals could continue to add another player or two. However, ownership has reportedly set out to limit contracts that extend too far into the future, which means they will likely target rentals.

3 players the St. Louis Cardinals could trade for before the MLB Trade Deadline

#1. Yusei Kikuchi

The Cardinals have several veteran pitchers on their roster, but given the rigors of the regular season and playoffs, the health of their aging core could be a concern. Yusei Kikuchi could enter the team's rotation as a viable starter.

Kikuchi's expiring deal aligns perfectly with the Cardinals front office's desire not to commit to long-term financial commitments. The Blue Jays have been major sellers this summer, and Kikuchi is one of the most sought-after arms on the market.

#2. Amed Rosario

Amed Rosario is another intriguing trade target for the Cardinals for a number of reasons, including versatility, an affordable contract and effectiveness at the dish. The veteran has been enjoying a strong season with the Tampa Bay Rays, and, like it or not, he could be shipped off for a prospect or two.

The Rays have already moved Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes, which shows the team's willingness to part with their veterans. The St. Louis Cardinals could benefit from Rosario's elite on-base skills, as well as his defensive versatility as they push for the postseason.

#3. Andrew Heaney

With the Texas Rangers currently outside of the playoff picture, Andrew Heaney could be an intriguing target for Oliver Marmol and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Rangers have already traded players such as Michael Lorenzen, and Heaney could be the next one out the door. Heaney could be an affordable option for St. Louis, especially if they don't want to blow up their farm system before the deadline.
