The MLB Trade Deadline is starting to heat up, and the Detroit Tigers must figure out what they are doing with Tarik Skubal. Skubal has operated as the team's ace this season and could get quite the return for Detroit.
While MLB.com's Mark Feinsand said the Los Angeles Dodgers would be interested in the lefty, they are not the only ones. He also stated the Baltimore Orioles would take a swing at Skubal as well.
LA could be a good fit for Skubal, but MLB Network insider Jon Morosi views Baltimore as being the one and only fit. They have the talent in the minors to get the deal done, but it depends on how willing they would be to move Jackson Holliday or Samuel Basallo.
Would the Orioles be willing to trade Jackson Holliday to the Tigers in exchange for Tarik Skubal?
On paper, it would be tough for the Orioles to move on from Jackson Holliday so early. While he struggled in his debut, he's still the team's top prospect and has a huge ceiling.
As mentioned earlier, they have some other prospects who they would likely see if teams are interested in first. Samuel Basallo is a top-catching prospect who could excite Detroit as well as infielder Coby Mayo.
The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli doesn't believe Skubal or Chicago White Sox flamethrower Garrett Crochet would be enough to make Baltimore consider moving Jackson.
With the way Baltimore's rotation has been playing, they don't necessarily need to add the best arm on the market. They could trade for somebody like Erick Fedde or another low-cost arm for depth.
It will be interesting to see what the O's with the deadline creeping up. They have a great team, but in the AL East, you can never get too comfortable.
