In his first year back in the MLB, Erick Fedde is drawing significant trade interest ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Pitching is always at a premium, especially with injuries happening so frequently. The star pitcher is playing well for the worst team in baseball, which makes him a prime candidate to be moved in the next couple of days.
Reports indicate that at least three teams are seriously interested in his services. The once-top prospect who spent some time overseas could be playing for a contender in the next few days.
The St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers are the primary teams that are interested, though they're far from the only ones. The Cardinals have the most interest, though.
Their rotation is a little up in the air next year, and Fedde is under contract through next season. He could bolster their playoff chances in the Wild Card race this season, while also giving them a bit of future stability.
For the Astros and Brewers, two teams in good position to make the postseason, healthy and reliable arms are always on the needs list. The Astros have had a few major pitching injuries, so adding depth there would bolster their chances of making it back to the playoffs and perhaps an eighth straight ALCS appearance.
Cardinals have momentum toward Erick Fedde trade
The St. Louis Cardinals want Erick Fedde, and they just might get him. MLB reporter Jon Heyman said there's nothing concrete right now with a couple of days remaining before the deadline, but momentum is gathering.
He reported on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"Cardinals are pushing for Erick Fedde. Nothing definitive but some momentum there."
There have already been a few blockbuster trades well before the deadline, including deals for Dylan Cease, Luis Arraez, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Randy Arozarena, and Isaac Paredes. A Fedde trade is not imminent, but it could happen at any time.
The Cardinals appear to be the frontrunners, but as mentioned, several teams are monitoring the Chicago White Sox and could try and land the ace.
