The MLB Trade Deadline is heating up, with only four hours remaining until trades will forcibly cease. GMs all across baseball are working the phones and trying to secure the best for their team. That includes a few recent moves that teams have made. Here's the latest update.
MLB Trade Deadline sees Yankees, Nationals, and Mets active
Unsurprisingly, the New York Yankees are active. After it was reported that they'd focus on pitching, they officially made a trade with the Chicago Cubs for Mark Leiter Jr.
According to Jeff Passan, the right-handed pitcher is being sent to the Bronx for infielder Ben Cowles and another right-handed pitcher, Jack Neely. Neely is the Yankees' 22nd-best prospect, while Cowles ranks 29th in their farm system.
Across town, the New York Mets are making a deal, too. They designated Josh Walker for assignment, but the Pittsburgh Pirates decided to make the move and trade for him. The compensation wasn't revealed, but it won't be much for a player on waivers.
Also in the NL East, the Washington Nationals are interested in making a deal.
They have primarily been sellers, but they're looking at buying this time. According to Jon Heyman, Dylan Carlson is on their radar. They just sent Lane Thomas to the Cleveland Guardians, so there is a hole in the outfield. They may be looking to Carlson as a potential reclamation project.
The Boston Red Sox are also making a deal for Lucas Sims. The relief pitcher is headed over from the Cincinnati Reds, so they are bolstering their bullpen. After a brilliant and surprising first half, the Red Sox are buyers.
The Miami Marlins have reportedly traded left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles.
There's still plenty of time to make deals, but these three teams are getting ahead of it. In the Yankees' case, especially, this may not be the only move made. Brian Cashman and other GMs still have plenty of time to work their magic.
