Despite significant failings from his team this season, Tanner Scott of the Miami Marlins has emerged as one of MLB's top arms. Now, with his team a mile away from postseason contention, the reliever is quickly becoming coveted by an array of contending clubs.
A left-hander who turned 30 years old last week, Scott is in the throes of a career season. Now 6-5, Scott has allowed just six earned runs in 45.2 innings pitched, giving him an ERA of 1.18. Moreover, the Ohio native is on pace to set career highs in strikeouts and WHIP.
In a recent piece for FanSided, writer Scott Pressnell examined the market for Scott. According to Pressnell, there are some very high-profile clubs interested, including some who may be interested in a longer-term arrangement with Tanner Scott.

The top team identified as contenders to land Scott is his former team, the Baltimore Orioles. According to Pressnell, the O's have a unique array of prospect talent in their farm system, something the Marlins are desperately after. Moreover, despite being one of MLB's most gifted offensive teams, Orioles relievers have a 3.90 ERA this season, ranking them 14th out of 30 MLB teams.
The other two teams that Pressnell projected Tanner Scott could move to are the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. Both are teams with postseason aspirations, and both are teams who could desperately use some help in the bullpen.
"Yankees, Dodgers and Phillies are among the teams interested in trading for Tanner Scott, per @JonHeyman" - B/R Walk-Off
Analyst Jon Heyman has been among the top voices suggesting that a trade to send Scott to the Yankees could be on the table. Now 8-13 since July 1, injuries and underperformances have put a strain on New York's bullpen, and adding a reliever like Scott could do wonders to help the team open up other options.
Tanner Scott represents a perfect playoff pickup
Though his postseason experience is negligible, Tanner Scott has still pitched well this season, which is likely enough for playoff aspirants to take a chance. As Scott Pressnell wrote about Scott in his original piece:
"Just about every contending team is going to be looking at the asking price on Scott. He would improve any bullpen in the league, including the top Cleveland Guardians bullpen, who have been historically dominant."
Although much interest is sure to be drummed up, it is up to the Miami Marlins to ensure they get a return that will pay dividends in the future.
