The Detroit Tigers are one of the most interesting teams to watch as the MLB trade deadline rapidly approaches. Despite struggling to make much of an impact from a team standpoint this year, the club has several players who have drawn interest from across the league due to their strong seasons.
Some of the players who could be on the move before the trade deadline include veterans Mark Canha, Jack Flaherty and most notably American League Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal. According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, the market for Canha has continued to heat up as several contenders have shown interest in acquiring the 35-year-old outfielder.
Although Canha's season-long numbers leave something to be desired, he is a proven talent who could be available for a relatively cheap price tag. With Canha an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, Detroit would likely be satisfied with receiving something for the veteran instead of potentially losing him for nothing in free agency.
Several contenders could benefit from a veteran bat such as Mark Canha, including the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although more "attractive" outfield names are reportedly available, such as Luis Robert Jr., Canha could likely be had for a fraction of the cost.
Tarik Skubal is the most notable player of the Detroit Tigers who could be moved before the MLB trade deadline
While Detroit likely would be willing to move the likes of Mark Canha in nearly any deal that brought them a prospect in return, things are a tad different when it comes to Tarik Skubal.
Arguably the best pitcher in the American League this season, Skubal has drawn interest from many top contenders, including the Baltimore Orioles. The Detroit Tigers will be looking to capitalize on Skubal's massive season. One of the names that has frequently been brought up in a potential Orioles deal is super-prospect Jackson Holliday.
The first pick of the 2022 MLB draft, Holliday struggled mightily during his first, brief stint in the majors. Even so, he remains one of baseball's top prospects and could be viewed as a major building block for Detroit for years to come.
