The MLB trade deadline is less than a week away, and teams are finalizing some of the probable additions that can cater to their roster needs. Teams involved in postseason contention as well as the ones desperately looking to rebuild their squad are all considering several potential deals.
A number of high-profile names such as Randy Arozarena, Jack Flaherty and James Paxton have recently picked up steam for a last-moment trade, along with much-sought-after candidates like Tarik Skubal, Garrett Crochet, etc. With the July 30 deadline approaching, here are the latest rumors picking up speed.
#1 Dodgers looking to sign Randy Arozarena
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena has picked up his game at the plate for the last two months, slashing at .286/.392/.514. The LA Dodgers need some backup in the outfield.
In case they sign Arozarena, then left-hander Jason Heyward can move to the floater role while Teoscar Hernandez can shift to left field to make space for the Rays RF.
#2 James Paxton's possible reunion with Red Sox
The Dodgers shocked the baseball world when they DFA'd starter James Paxton, who has had a solid 8-2, 4.43 ERA this season, to make space for a returning Clayton Kershaw and No. 4 prospect River Ryan.
With the scope of the 35-year-old heading back to the minors unlikely, the Boston Red Sox have emerged as a potential destination for the pitcher who was with the team last season, going 7-5 with a 4.50 ERA.
#3 Phillies interested in landing a fifth formidable starter
The Philadelphia Phillies' starting rotation has been unstoppable this season. With Zack Wheeler, Ranger Suarez, Christopher Sanchez and Aaron Nola amassing a combined 9.5 WAR and 2.97 ERA, it has been hard to score runs off baseball's best team. But the fifth man in the rotation has led them down.
As reports suggest, the Phillies are looking at both Detroit Tigers' Jack Flaherty and Chicago White Sox's Garrett Crochet to plug the gap heading into the postseason.
#4 Orioles to use farm system to leverage Tarik Skubal deal
The Baltimore Orioles have the best prospect lineup in the MLB. With the team in need of starters to strengthen the pitching staff, it is reported to be actively pursuing Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. The American All-Star starter has had a Cy Young-caliber season so far.
As per reports, the Os have already held talks with the Tigers for a massive prospect swap.
