Today has been an interesting day for the MLB trade rumors, as many things unfolded and many potential trades came into the limelight. With less than a week left before the MLB trade deadline, every minute is important for the major league teams. During these days, the future of the World Series 2024 can be influenced by a single decision.
July 25th was one such day, as some potential trade options could make a difference in the leaderboard. Let's take a look at these events:
1) Blake Snell is on his way to becoming a top contender before July 30
The prospect of the San Francisco Giants ending up in the postseason is too little as the National League West division has teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Amidst this, Giants ace Blake Snell has still given stellar performances.
As per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, Snell has caught the attention of many teams in the MLB. However, it won't be a much beneficial trade for the Giants, as Snell signed a two-year contract worth $62 million in March. He also has a competitive balance tax calculation of $29.7 million, which amounts to the Giant's CBT payroll at 12.5%.
Besides this, during the contract, Snell's signing bonus was only $17 million to be paid in 2026, which was nontransferable to a trade partner. The current salary of Snell is $15 million but they will also have to pay $17 million in 2026. So, they'll save less than $5 million. So, it's to be seen if the Giants come out as sellers before the trade deadline.
2) Pittsburgh Pirates: a potential trade destination for Jazz Chisholm Jr.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in desperate need of a good outfielder. So, Jazz Chisholm Jr. seems to be an ideal choice for them since he has added a .247/.310/441 slash line in five seasons, so he's exactly what the Pirates need. Moreover, Bob Nightengale of USA Today has also reported that the Philadelphia Phillies are not interested in Chisholm Jr. anymore, which gives the Pirates a clearer road to opportunity.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is currently under a one-year contract of $2.63 million with the Miami Marlins. So, the Pirates will have to pay a hefty amount to add him in the roster. However, the offensive abilities of Chisholm Jr. make him worthy of that price, now it's to be seen if the Pirates will be ready to make that trade offer with the Marlins or not.
3) Houston Astros might be interested in Erick Fedde
The Houston Astros are looking towards the Chicago White Sox, to help themselves in strengthen their pitching. The Astros have faced a lot of injuries in their rotation, and Eric Fedde seems like a great choice for their struggling roster, as per Russell Dorsey of Yahoo! Sports. This might turn out to be a fair trade as the Astros have many players that would fulfill the White Sox's needs and would be a great match in the trade for Fedde.
Moreover, Erick Fedde is also an affordable trade, as he's signed with the White Sox for only $7.5 million and will play for the same price in the next season as well. So, the White Sox are benefiting from retaining Fedde as they'd have to pay a cheaper price for a star pitcher. The Astros can influence them by offering fruitful trades to the team and signing Fedde with cheap control for themselves.
