The New York Yankees are expected to be one of the most active teams before Tuesday's MLB trade deadline. After opening the year as arguably the strongest club in majors, the Bronx Bombers fell into a major slump heading into the All-Star break. While the team and its manager, Aaron Boone, have expressed confidence in the current roster, it's clear that something needs to change.

Although the Yankees remain one of the top teams in the American League, many experts believe that the team will look to bolster its roster before the deadline. Enter the Chicago Cubs, who could look to move some of their veterans as they retool for next season.

MLB insider Jon Morosi believes that New York could look at Nico Hoerner or Mike Tauchman as potential targets before the end of the month. Morosi believes that either could be viewed as viable lead-off options for the Yankees as they look to secure their first World Series title since 2009.

New York has been looking for an offensive boost in its lineup outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Adding proven hitters such as Nico Hoerner and Mike Tauchman could help the team get runners on base in front of their two All-Star sluggers.

Tauchman is in the final year of his current contract; however, he has two years of arbitration eligibility remaining, which could make him more than a rental option. Like Tauchman, Hoerner would also not be considered a rental as he is under contract until the end of the 2026 season.

The New York Yankees have been linked to several stars

Aside from Mike Tauchman and Nico Hoerner, New York has been mentioned in trade rumors all season involving several stars. Mason Miller, Garrett Crochet, Chad Green, Pete Alonso and Isaac Paredes have all been mentioned as potential trade targets for the club.

While some of these rumors may be more realistic than others, there is no denying that the team will need to improve its current core of players if New York has any hope of legitimately contending for the World Series.
