MLB Twitter fans troll Shohei Ohtani after being named the best player in MLB for the second time

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels’ two-way sensation, was recently named the American League's best player in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the second time. While this achievement would typically be cause for celebration, some Twitter fans took a different approach and instead chose to troll Ohtani, criticizing his lack of team success despite his individual accolades.

The criticism directed towards Ohtani was pretty harsh but explainable. It is important to remember that baseball is a team sport, and one player cannot single-handedly carry a team to success.

Ohtani has certainly done his part, putting up impressive individual numbers in both pitching and hitting, but the Angels have not been able to translate that into team success.

Despite Ohtani's individual achievements, however, the Angels finished the 2022 season with a record of 73-89, 19 games out of first place in the American League West division.

Some Twitter users chose to mock Ohtani's playoff drought, suggesting that his individual success is meaningless since his team has not made the playoffs during his tenure.

While it's true that the Angels have not made the playoffs since 2014, it's unfair to place the blame solely on Ohtani. Baseball is a team sport, and it takes contributions from everyone to make the playoffs.

One fan tweeted, "Won't make the playoffs again," while another wrote, "also first player to be eliminated."

Shohei Ohtani will look to land the World Series in what could be his last season with the Angels

While the headlines have been dominated by Shohei Ohtani's impending free agency at the end of the year, the Los Angeles Angels will surely try their best to retain him. They have two of the biggest names in the MLB on their team and will hope to convert that into silverware this season.

The criticism aimed at Shohei Ohtani may be harsh, but it is worth noting that he is not the only star player to have struggled with team success in recent years. Mike Trout, widely regarded as one of the best players in baseball history, has only made the playoffs once in his career, despite putting up incredible numbers year after year.

In the meantime, Shohei Ohtani will continue to work hard and strive for excellence, both as an individual player and as a member of the Angels. And while he may continue to face criticism from some fans, he can take comfort in knowing that his talent and dedication are widely recognized and respected by his peers and those who truly understand the game of baseball.
