Carlos Correa was set to play for Team Puerto Rico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, but has now pulled out of the tournament. It is reported that this was a joint decision made by Correa and the Minnesota Twins. The reason given is that Correa's wife is set to give birth during the tournament and he doesn't want to juggle baseball and family. Fans do not believe that the reason given is true.

It has been a tumultuous offseason for Correa, who agreed to three contracts before finally signing with the Twins. The reason behind it was the state of his ankle and concerns about how its deteriotion will affect his play. Many who saw the news of him pulling out of the WBC believe that the same ankle issue is the real reason why.

MLB insider Dan Hayes reported on Correa's World Baseball Classic status via Twitter.

The reason given makes sense and could likely be the reality, but fans have already created their own narratives. After failed physicals ended his deals with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets, there is clearly a health issue. If it is his ankle that is preventing Carlos Correa from playing so soon, the Twins likely wouldn't share that information.

The World Baseball Classic is completely optional, and Carlos Correa's decision not to play is up to him and the Twins. Since it will not affect the MLB season, many teams are wary of their stars playing. It is unfortunate that the crazy offseason is being held against Correa, who potentially did pull out for family reasons.

The World BBC has seen a rash of players either pull out of the tournament or be prevented from playing by their teams. Luis Castillo, Ronald Acuna Jr. and now Carlos Correa are the primary examples. This has put a damper on the excitement heading into the tournament, which begins March 8.

Team Puerto Rico will be without one of their top players, severely limiting their chances of winning the World Baseball Classic.

It is shocking that a two-time All-Star and World Series champion will still have to prove himself. However, with so many questions swirling about Correa's health, he needs to show the MLB world he can still play at a high level.

If he can stay healthy, he could make the Mets and Giants regret not signing him when they had the chance.
