After a disastrous season with the Chicago Cubs, new Los Angeles Dodgers acquisition Jason Heyward has shown signs of regaining his confidence.
With Opening Day less than a month away, his recent spring training performances showed glimpses of the devastation he can cause with his refined swing. He has strengthened his case for a spot on the active roster, having signed a Minor League deal with the Dodgers with an invitation to spring training.
Naturally, MLB Twitter was abuzz after Heyward hit his second home run in four days. Many users begrudgingly credited the Dodgers' coaching setup for J-Hey's return to form:
Some were just happy to re-discover Heyward:
Many were just happy at the prospect of a Heyward renaissance:
Some were here for the Outman-Heyward contest:
Jason Heyward's final season with the Cubs
Jason Heyward had a disappointing 2022 season with the Chicago Cubs, following which he was released by the franchise. Heyward hit a solitary home run in 137 at-bats and ended the season with an underwhelming batting average of .204.
Heyward will hope this new move, which reunites him with former Atlanta Braves teammate Freddie Freeman, breathes new life into his MLB career.
The Dodgers will certainly be hoping for the same. LA is not the favorite for the World Series championship, but it isn't far from it. The Houston Astros are understandably the bookmakers' choice, with the New York Mets second and the Dodgers third, sharing the same odds as the New York Yankees.
There is certainly room for optimism in LA, and maybe even some degree of expectation. If the Dodgers are to bring it home, they will need everyone, including Heyward, to deliver consistently.
