LA Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts appears to be making progress in his recovery. Betts confirmed on Wednesday that he did not face any problems while taking swings, but stressed that he was not going to rush his return.

The two-time World Series champion has been on the 10-day injured list for the past five weeks due to a fractured left hand, but he took part in a rehab assignment on Monday. He swung the bat and also fielded ground balls.

"I feel good," Betts told reporters. "Things are coming along good. I feel like I hadn't played baseball in forever. So it's like I'm relearning position, going through bumps and bruises, but that's the fun part. I'm just happy to be back out there."

Betts' scan from last Saturday showed that his bone is healing at a good pace, but it's still not completely back to normal.

"I've gotten to swing a little bit, hitting the little, the rubber balls, and then eventually move into some tennis balls and then baseballs and whatnot," he added. "So just want to make sure every swing I take, you know, the hand, the hand is okay. There's no vibration or anything going on that's going to slow the healing process down."

Dave Roberts optimistic about return of Mookie Betts

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was happy seeing Betts's progress during the rehab assignment.

"Mookie looks great,” he was quoted as saying by Dodger Blue. “Saw him taking more grounders today and running around. He took some swings today, felt good swinging the bat. It showed enough grip strength to take some swings. He did say it was weak, which is to be expected."

Roberts believes Betts could make a return this season and strengthen the Dodgers' roster.
