MLB analyst Ryan Finkelstein believes Jurickson Profar could be a more realistic option for the New York Mets than other free agents who could demand lucrative deals. The 31-year-old outfielder entered free agency after coming off a career year with the San Diego Padres and remains a viable option for any team looking for a DH.
"Jurickson Profar is a free agent... The reality is, Jurickson Profar has had two good seasons really in his career, 2022 with the Padres and 2024 with the Padres," Finklestein said on the "Locked On Mets" podcast.
"He is coming off and All-Star season, he turns 32 years old in February, just won a Silver Slugger, he's a switch hitter that hit .280, got on base with a .380, slugged at a .459, 24 home runs, 85 RBIs.
"He wasn't great defensively in left field, but he could be your DH. And if you want to, you could stick him out there to get Nimmo off his feet or if Nimmo's hurt ... you could probably sign him to a three-year deal and he would make your lineup a lot better.
"A guy that is coming off a good season that could have a pretty big impact. I figured that might be a more realistic target than Anthony Santander, Teoscar Hernandez."
Re-signing the likes of Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker still remains the preferred move for the Mets but Profar could be a good fit if he remains available once the market narrows down.
MLB insider claims that Mets looking for an outfielder in the free agent market
Having re-signed starting pitcher Sean Manaea, the New York Mets might still explore the free agent market for an outfielder. According to ESPN's Jesse Patton, they are still looking for an upgrade at DH and won't shy away from signing a free agent if they find a good fit.
They reportedly still want to sign Pete Alonso this winter, but as time passes, they will need some backup options in hand.
