Former New York Yankees hitting coach Sean Casey and MLB analyst Rich Ciancimino recently talked about Kike Hernandez and his remarkable habit of turning into a formidable batter whenever he takes part in the postseason. In his career, Hernandez bats .238 in the regular season, but his average jumps to .279 in playoff games.
This season has been no different, having managed a .229 average in the regular season, he has been on a tear in October, batting .302 with two homers and six RBIs. With lower-order batters like Hernandez and Tommy Edman firing in the playoffs, the Dodgers offense has turned into a dangerous unit at the perfect time.
During Tuesday's episode of "The Mayor's Office With Sean Casey," the former big leaguer talked about Hernandez's importance to the Dodgers in the postseason.
"A guy we're kinda overlooking is Kike Hernandez, Casey said (5:48). "Another two hits last night, another run driven in. Tommy Edman too, these role players are really coming up big. Kike Hernandez, man, you talk about Mr. October. Mediocre player in the season, come October, he turns into Babe Ruth."
Kike Hernandez continues exceptional postseason with another RBI, Dodgers one step away from World Series win
The LA Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 4-2 in Game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium on Monday night. The Dodgers pitching staff continued their trend of pitching well in the playoffs, as Walker Buehler had a strong performance. He went five innings, allowing only two hits and giving up zero runs.
Kike Hernandez also continued his fine postseason, as he drove in the fourth run in the top of the sixth inning to add some insurance on the day. Eventually, Hernandez's hit proved important, as the Yankees staged a fightback, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth to give the fans a nail-biting finale. However, they ultimately came up short.
The two teams are set to play the fourth game of the series on Tuesday. Dodgers fans will be hoping their team can win its eighth World Series title via a clean sweep of the Yankees.
