Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos talked about how an alternative approach at the plate has been leading to better results while discussing batting position fit. The 32-year-old bats fifth in the Phillies' batting order.
After facing a slump following the All-Star break, the Phillies find themselves back in form, winning their last four games on the bounce prior to Wednesday's game. Castellanos spoke about his batting style after Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Astros. (21:43).
"My style of hitting, which has always [been] glorified batting practice. I don't really have an approach, I look for the baseball and hit it as hard as I can," Castellanos told NBC Sports Philadelphia.
"Having protection behind me usually forces the pitcher to throw to me more. If I'm on the cliff of the lineup, where the power starts to drop off, now the approach is 'we don't have to throw this guy a strike'. That's hard for me, because I don't think I've ever gone to the plate looking to walk."
Nick Castellanos' three-run home run helps Phillies clinch game against Astros
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Houston Astros 5-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday. The game was a relatively quiet, except for the bottom of the third inning, where the home side rallied for four runs.
A lot of credit for that big third inning goes to Nick Castellanos, who hit a three-run home run with two outs against Astros ace Justin Verlander.
Phillies ace Aaron Nola pitched a gem, throwing seven scoreless innings while striking out six.
Castellanos is hitting .249 batting average, to go along with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs after 132 games this season.
The Phillies are leading the NL East standings comfortably while also sharing the best win/loss record in the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers at 78-54. They are positioned well to qualify for the postseason once again.
The team hopes to maintain consistency both defensively and offensively, as they aim to make a deep run in the postseason.
