Dansby Swanson's wife, Mallory Swanson, was the golden girl for the US women's soccer team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her 57th-minute goal turned out to be the winner for the USWNT and helped them edge past a gritty Brazilian unit in the gold medal game.
This was the USWNT's first gold medal at the Summer Olympics since 2012 and their fifth overall, making them one of the most decorated teams at the grand sporting spectacle. Mallory Swanson took to her Instagram account to share a post reflecting on the win, as the caption read:
"My God did not fail! ♥️ thank you to everyone for the support along the way! Still not over this 😭"
In a postgame interview, Mallory said:
"It’s kind of unreal. I don’t really have the words yet! It’s pretty crazy. It was a picture-perfect moment. Honestly, when I was out injured, I don’t think I even dreamed of moments like this. For me, it was just about getting back to playing with joy again. I’ve been able to do that with my team-mates in this group. I’ve had so much fun."
Mallory Swanson couldn't have dreamed of anything better since coming off a serious injury right before the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup, which had crushed her dreams of playing for the USWNT for more than a year. She had torn the patella tendon on her knee, which required three surgeries and more than 12 months on the sidelines.
Reflecting on how the recovery time from her injury helped her and simultaneously voicing praise for her husband, Dansby Swanson, Mallory said:
"After a major injury like that, you become a new player and a new person. Now, I’m just having so much fun and playing with joy. I think even more than before [the injury].
I remember my husband said, ‘You only really have one option – and that’s to come back’. When you have that mindset, that's it. That’s what brought me through."
Dansby Swanson celebrated Mallory Swanson's achievement with a heartfelt post
Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson showcased support for her gold medal-winning wife after her triumph at the Paris Olympics. He shared a post on Instagram with the caption:
"God is so good. Always and forever. You are such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom. Your faith in God’s plan, gratitude in life, the grace and joy in which you live and play, the perseverance to fight through whatever obstacles thrown your way.
"You are truly a gift from above, and you shine with that every day. I’m speechless. And now you’re a gold medal, Olympic champion, and 100 caps in the same day. And that can never be taken from you. I love you forever ❤️"
Dansby Swanson and Mallory Swanson have been together for more than eight years now. The power couple exchanged vows at the Ritz Carlton in December 2022 and have been happily married ever since.
