Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman and his family are in a happy place after the superstar slugger's heroics in the Fall Classic against the New York Yankees helped the NL West team to an eighth World Series title.
Freddie and his wife, Chelsea, went through a medical emergency after the youngest of their three sons, Max, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome in August. The rare neurological disorder impacted their three-year-old son's ability to walk and move freely.
However, Max has improved over the last few months, and Chelsea has been constantly updating on her youngest son's health. In a recent Instagram post, Chelsea shared a clip of Max working on his mobility with dumbbells, captioning it:
"My literal super hero"
Max suffered from full-body paralysis after being diagnosed with the ailment and was admitted to a pediatric ICU. His symptoms initially showed after the All-Star game in July when he stopped consuming food and had trouble moving around.
But the Freeman family received good news after Max made a significant improvement in his recovery. Chelsea shared an encouraging update with all the well-wishers in October:
"Max's neurologist is VERY VERY VERY happy with how he is progressing. Today was the first time Dr. Crawford got to see Max walk. We are still waiting for his reflexes to come back, but that usually takes the longest.
"A few weeks ago, we were talking about getting Max fitted for leg braces. But he is doing so great that we might be able to bypass them. With the help of lots and lots of PT, Max is getting closer and closer to being his normal rambunctious self. Again, thank you all so much for the prayers and well wishes for our family."
Freddie Freeman and family enjoy the holiday season
Following his Fall Classic heroics that earned him the World Series MVP award, Freddie Freeman and his wife are enjoying the offseason with their three sons. Chelsea shared a story of her eldest son sitting in the front seat with his elf toy "Mr. Pickles."
Freddie, who was troubled by an ankle issue during the postseason, played through the injury in the team's triumphant run in October before undergoing ankle surgery last week.
The two-time World Series winner shared an update with his fans, writing:
"Worth it for the ring."
Despite the surgery, Freddie Freeman is expected to join the team when they report for Spring Training in February.
