Alex Bregman quickly made a name for himself when he debuted for the Houston Astros during the 2016 season. He played in just 49 games, getting a taste for big-league action ahead of what would be an important 2017 season.
In 2017, Houston was sensational. They won 101 games, making the postseason and going on a deep run. They ended up beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 in the series for their first World Series title as an organization.
Bregman came up huge for Houston during the World Series. He hit two home runs to help his club take down the Dodgers. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Bregman admits he had been preparing for that moment since he was a child.
"You grow up dreaming about playing in the World Series since you're a little kid. I remember the days back in the backyard with my parents playing whiffle ball, saying, 'Hey, it's Game 7 of the World series, are you gonna win or are you gonna lose?'" said Bregman.
Bregman remembered playing in the yard with his mom and dad and them putting the pressure on him to perform. He envisioned himself playing in the World Series under the brightest lights and putting on for his club.
Alex Bregman reveals Astros' 2017 team chemistry was huge for their success
One big thing that can push a team to the next level is their team chemistry. It can turn good teams into great ones and can be a reason why a team full of talent plays below their level.
For the Astros, the team chemistry could not have been better during the 2017 season. Alex Bregman believed it was a big reason why they had such a successful season.
"The clubhouse chemistry was probably one of the best things we had going for us all year long. We added some veteran guys in the offseason that really brought this team closer together" said Bregman.
Bregman revealed that Houston acquiring some veteran players really helped get this team closer. While he did not mention names specifically, Carlos Beltran was acquired that season and became somewhat of a clubhouse leader.
Later, it would be revealed that the Astros had cheated during their 2017 WS championship season. They used electronic means to steal signs in real time, relaying them to their batters and giving them an unfair advantage.
