Nathaniel Lowe, who played the last four seasons with the Texas Rangers, was among several players changing teams this offseason. In December, Lowe was traded to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Robert Garcia.

Apart from Lowe, there were other first baseman moves in the offseason as well. On MLB Network, Lowe shared his thoughts on Paul Goldschmidt's one-year, $12.5 million deal with the New York Yankees.

He also discussed Josh Naylor's trade from Cleveland Guardians to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi and 2025 Competitive Balance Round B pick.

"That was wild," Lowe said. "Honestly, when I saw Paul Goldschmidt sign in New York, I thought, okay, maybe I’m not going to get moved because I didn’t want to. But I started checking Twitter a little bit. I had actually told my wife, ‘You know, now that they’re buttoned up there and Naylor moves from Cleveland to Arizona, maybe we won’t get moved.’
"And sure enough, CY calls me while I’m on a hunting trip in Kansas and says, ‘Thanks for everything, and you’re heading to Washington.’ So yeah, couldn’t be happier. We’re excited for a new opportunity."

Nathaniel Lowe takes learning from last trade, aiming to teach young lads in Nats

Getting traded in winter is nothing new to Nathaniel Lowe. After two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, the club traded him to the Rangers in Dec. 2020. At the time, he didn't have much experience, but now he's a World Series champion and is one of 10 first basemen in MLB history with a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove as well.

Nathaniel Lowe aims to use this experience and impart the young Nats core who's yet to record a winning season since their first World Series in 2019.

"Man, it’s a similar groundwork to the situation I was put in when I got traded to Texas, right? We had a bunch of guys who were looking for routes in their careers to get the most out of it—guys who were looking forward to becoming winning players," Lowe said on MLB Network.
"It feels like there’s a huge upside with this group that I’m getting put in with in Washington. Ideally, I can bring some experience from what it takes to win and what it took for us to win in Texas and teach these young kids how to get after it and how to be winning players."

Nathaniel Lowe feels it's similar to when he joined the Rangers. He believes that it won't be long before the Nats become competitive again.
