Ex-MLB star Jose Canseco said it is time for the citizens of the United States to cast their differences aside and be united as a nation. Canseco is worried by the political violence and polarization of the masses ahead of the US presidential elections that are set to be held later in the year.
Jose Canseco is a former six-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion who played for seven different franchises in his major league career. In 1988, he became the first player to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season, going on to win the American League MVP. He later admitted to using anabolic steroids during his career and accused other MLB stars of doing the same.
Canseco shared his opinion on social media after the assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was reportedly shot by a gunman from an elevated position outside the rally venue, and the bullet grazed the upper part of his right ear. Trump was rushed out of the area by Secret Service agents, who have declared that he is now safe.
"We need to unite as a country now more than ever," Jose Canseco posted on his profile on X.
The Secret Service has confirmed that two people lost their lives in the incident—the suspected shooter and a spectator at the rally—while two other people were also critically injured.
Jose Canseco offered his services to the Trump administration
The former MLB All-Star had previously volunteered himself to serve Donald Trump when the latter was residing in the White House.
"Hey little buddy @realDonaldTrump u need a bash brother for Chief if Staff. Got a secret reorg plan already. Also worried about you looking more like a Twinkie everyday. I will buff you up daily workouts," Jose Canseco had posted on X in December 2018.
Canseco had also offered his services to the ruling administration of the time after Nikki Haley announced her resignation as the US ambassador to the United States.
Due to his outspoken personality, Jose Canseco is still garnering attention, even though his playing career ended more than two decades ago. Canseco hit 462 home runs during his 17-year stint in the big leagues. The 60-year-old stays highly active on social media and has a major beef with former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
