Justin Verlander will miss a little more time before returning to the New York Mets rotation. He's still recovering from a right teres major strain that took him out of Opening Day contention.

Verlander is working his way back, but maybe not at the pace Mets fans are hoping for. He's likely to stay on the IL until late April.

His return depends on how quickly the inflammation in his arm disappears. Verlander is a competitor; expect him to return to the mound as quickly as possible.

The team could use the reigning American League Cy Young Award-winning pitcher. They looked discombobulated in their series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

"This went from nothing severe to maybe a month LOL," one fan tweeted.
"Typical Mets. When they say this, that usually means you'll see them back on the field in August," another fan tweeted.

New York Mets fans weren't happy to hear the news surrounding Justin Verlander, as the injury originally surprised them. The team initially downplayed the injury to him missing two starts, but he'll miss more time than that.

Fans are preparing for the worst. Either he will rush back and reinjure himself, or he won't be back until the end of April. Either way, this wasn't how they imagined the season starting.

The New York Mets need Justin Verlander healthy as soon as possible

The New York Mets need Justin Verlander healthy and on the mound as soon as possible. Verlander's presence typically means you're getting a quality start. The veteran right-hander went 18-4, leading the league in wins and win-loss percentage last year. He also led the league in ERA, ERA+, WHIP, and H9.

He was, without a doubt, one of the most dominant pitchers in the league last season. If he can put up those types of numbers this season, the Mets will have gotten their money's worth.

The pitching staff needs a jolt, as they have been lackluster at times during this young season. They just finished the series with the Brewers, where they gave up a combined 26 runs in three games. Both Max Scherzer and Carlos Carrasco got hit around in the series, with Scherzer giving up three consecutive home runs. It was the first and most likely the last time fans will ever see that happen to Scherzer.

Hopefully, Verlander can return to the team quickly and in full health.
