Steve Cohen expressed an unwillingness to look back on the possibility of a last-minute offer to star pitcher Jacob deGrom. According to a tweet posted by Mike Puma, Steve said:

"I don't want to speculate on what would have been. All I know, what I said about the vibe of this club, I really like it"

Instead, Cohen is focusing on the team's chances in the upcoming season and has taken a more hands-on approach to team management, expanding his role within the organization. He is confident that his squad can lead the franchise to World Series glory in 2023 and beyond.

New York Mets fans were left heartbroken after star pitcher Jacob deGrom signed a five-year, $185 million deal with the Texas Rangers in December 2022. He is one of the biggest names who was headed to the free-agent market.

The Mets should have predicted that their homegrown star would be expecting a substantial raise to stay back in Queens. When the Texas Rangers made deGrom an offer, he went for it as the Mets were unwilling to match the deal.

Despite his departure, the team quickly moved to fill the void he left and soon announced the signing of Justin Verlander to a two-year deal reportedly worth $86 million.

Justin Verlander, considered one of the best pitchers of his generation, is expected to help compensate for deGrom's loss in the team.

While deGrom's departure is undoubtedly a blow to the New York Mets, Verlander's signing has given fans reason to hope for a successful season. The team's championship aspirations remain intact, and with Justin leading the way, they have a chance to make a deep playoff run and potentially even contend for a World Series title.

The New York Mets are on the lookout for a new president after Sandy Alderson stepped down from the role to become a special adviser to owner Steve Cohen. With the team still scouting for a new president, Mr. Cohen has taken on an expanded role, becoming more active in the organization’s daily business.

He said:

“It’s got to be somebody that I’m excited about bringing in. I’m the CEO right now. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but when we find the right person I’ll hire him"

Additionally, Steve also remains actively involved in the team's weekly meetings with executives.
