Anthony Volpe has been making some noise for the New York Yankees in spring training. The team's top prospect is hitting .308 with two home runs and five stolen bases.

Volpe has gotten the majority of his work at shortstop. He's been battling Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Oswald Peraza at the position. While he's handled the position well, a few balls have gotten by him.

Fortunately for him, the ball was ruled a hit as it was smoked off the barrel. Not many shortstops in the league are making that play. The runner at first was also on the move, which could have thrown Volpe off. It's a tough play for anybody to make, let alone a 21-year-old.

Either way, it doesn't help Volpe's case to make the opening day roster. The team has already announced Peraza as its opening day shortstop.

"There goes Opening Day," one fan tweeted.
"Peraza gets that ball," another fan tweeted.

Some New York Yankees fans don't think Anthony Volpe is ready for the big leagues yet. They believe Peraza is the better option at shortstop at the moment.

Other fans don't see much of a problem with the ball getting past Volpe. It was a rocket off the bat, and he wasn't even given an error. They don't think anybody should judge him on this play.

The future is bright for the New York Yankees with Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza

Anthony Volpe was drafted in the first round in 2019. The New York Yankees took him with the 30th pick. He was considered to have one of the best bats in the 2019 draft class. Many fans have given him Derek Jeter comparisons.

Volpe's only downfall is that his competition has MLB experience, while he does not. Peraza was called up last season, playing in 18 games for the Yankees. Peraza impressed the team so much that they made him the starting shortstop against the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the ALCS.

It makes sense for the team to start the season with Peraza as Volpe gets more at-bats at the minor league level. He only has 99 at-bats in Triple-A. The last thing the Yankees want to do is call him up when he's not ready and break his confidence.
