MLB Insider Jeff Passan sent New York Yankees Twitter into meltdown after claiming the Atlanta Braves were seriously considering a trade involving Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies and Kyle Wright, among other players.
Appearing on the Fordham Sports Analytics Roundup, Passan made this revelation when he was asked to share any trade rumors that failed to materialize and never made it to the sports pages.
Yankees fans on Twitter tried to process the news in different ways, with some of them directing their ire at Yankees management, particularly General Manager Brian Cashman:
"FIRE CASHMAN IMMEDIATELY," one fan posted.
"Cashman is going to hell my god," another said.
"Hal and Cashman really passed up on Acuña, Harper, and Machado in the past 5 years."
"Tell me not to drink a gallon of bleach right now bro."
As the shock subsided, some fans started asking the right questions:
"Ronald was considered untouchable by 2017 so I really don’t know what players the Yankees had during that time that would've justified a trade."
"This had to have been between 2017-2019 bc there's NO WAY this deal was possible before or after then."
"I’m in absolute shambles. Question I have though is who would have been going to the Braves??"
This tweet pretty much sums up the mood of New York Yankees fans after the news:
"Passan dropped this bomb on us at the very end of our convo and I still haven’t recovered."
New York Yankees chasing their first World Series win since 2009
New York Yankees fans pride themselves on demanding the most out of their players, and do not shy away from making their displeasure known. The last World Series win for the Bronx Bombers was back in 2009.
Fourteen years is a long time for a fanbase as spoiled with success as that of the Yankees. They will be counting on new captain Aaron Judge, fresh from his record-breaking year with the bat, to inspire the Pinstripers to World Series glory.
