The New York Yankees have just released their latest Spring Training roster. Today's matchup features potential fifth starter Domingo German on the mound and an interesting lineup behind him.
Anthony Volpe, who has a shot at nabbing the starting shortstop job, has had a thrilling spring. With each game that he remains with the team (even hot hitting Jasson Dominguez was demoted to the minors), it becomes more likely he makes the Opening Day roster.
The full lineup is:
- Anthony Volpe, SS
- Oswald Peraza, 2B
- Aaron Hicks, DH
- Isiah Kiner-Falefa, CF
- Estevan Florial, RF
- Wilmer Difo, 3B
- Billy McKinney, 1B
- Rodolfo Duran, C
- Jake Bauers, LF
Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been moving around in the infield, preparing to be a true utility infielder. However, ahead of Opening Day, the Yankees are trying him in the outfield to see if he can also be a backup outfielder.
Yankees fans find this lineup interesting and thrilling.
There are two main reactions that New York Yankees fans have had to this lineup. First, they're thrilled that Volpe is still with the team and playing shortstop. Not only that, but he's leading off.
Second, they're shocked that the Yankees truly want to try Kiner-Falefa in the outfield. The team mentioned doing it, but seeing them actually place an infielder in center field is a bit shocking.
Can Anthony Volpe make the New York Yankees roster?
For the New York Yankees, the arrival of Anthony Volpe could not come sooner. Fortunately, it looks as if it's coming whether anyone wants it or not.
The star prospect is mashing during Spring Training. He's hitting .333 with a .459 OBP. He also has an OPS of 1.126, which is just fantastic. He's played excellent defense and even stolen a few bases.
He truly does it all and it appears he's ready to make the leap. Whether or not he's named the starter remains to be seen since Kiner-Falefa, Oswald Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera are also in the mix.
Still, his performance is forcing the Yankees to make a tough decision and decide whether to stash him in the minors for more control or bring him up to wreak havoc on the MLB.
