The New York Yankees had no problem closing out the series against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. "The Bronx Bombers" shut out the Giants 6-0, giving them a 2-1 series win.
The Yankees were led by Aaron Judge, Kyle Higashioka, and Giancarlo Stanton, who each homered in the game. On the mound, they were backed by Jhony Brito, who threw five innings, giving up two hits and striking out six batters.
Six different Yankees hitters had hits in Sunday's game, with Oswaldo Cabrera being the only hitter with multiple hits on the day. Prospect Anthony Volpe went 0-3 with a walk but did record his third stolen base. This moves him to 3-3 for the year on stolen bases.
They did exactly what was needed of them on Opening Day weekend, and that was to win the series. New York will now shift their attention to the Philadelphia Phillies, with whom they start the series on Monday.
"Giants coulda used Arson," one fan tweeted.
"1st series win. Keep it up," another fan tweeted.
New York Yankees fans couldn't have asked for a better team win. It wasn't just Aaron Judge contributing on the offensive side, multiple players hit the long ball on Sunday.
The Yankees have shut out the San Francisco Giants in both of their wins. They won 5-0 on Opening Day and 6-0 on Sunday. That's nothing but dominating your opponent.
The New York Yankees looked strong in their opening series
The New York Yankees opened the year with a 2-1 record, with the Phillies coming into town on Monday. The Phillies are 0-2 through their first two games, giving up 27 combined runs. The Yankees may have a field day with them.
The Bronx Bombers have gotten a great start from their core power duo, Judge and Stanton. Both players have hit two home runs apiece so far this year. Even Josh Donaldson, who many fans didn't have high hopes for this season, has a home run under his belt.
The team has the talent to go on a deep run this season. They have a solid pitching rotation that should only improve as guys like Carlos Rodon and Luis Severino return from the IL. They have speed with the likes of Volpe, accompanied by tons of power from the guys at the top of their lineup.
