New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles - Source: Imagn
On Wednesday, the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles continued their battle in the Bronx. Yankees starter Marcus Stroman, who last pitched as a reliever, was smashed for three runs at the top of the first inning to set the pace for the game.

Defensively, the Yanks looked shaky. Jasson Dominguez struggled in the outfield while failing to make a play. Stroman wasn't too sharp on the mound as Colton Cowser drove in the first two runs. Ryan Mountcastle recorded another RBI single to extend the lead.
The Orioles sent Zach Eflin as their starter in this game. Eflin walked Juan Soto and Aaron Judge but retired the side with a double play in the first inning. Despite his strong start, Eflin continued to walk Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo in the bottom of the second.
Anthony Volpe drove in the first run for the Yanks by sending Stanton home and Rizzo to third base. Stroman struggled and was removed from the mound at the top of the fourth inning after surrendering another two runs.
Clayton Beeter replaced Stroman and started with a strike, but Soto missed another catch to give up another run. Disaster continued for the Bronx Bombers as they surrendered another single. The Orioles had a 7-1 lead at the top of the fourth.

Juan Soto hit a home run tonight
Just as when everything seemed lost, Juan Soto smashed a two-run home run against Eflin at the bottom of the fifth inning. It was Soto's 41st home run in pinstripes. Judge smashed another base hit and kept the game alive.
Ad
The Yanks had a couple of pitching changes as they brought in Cody Poteet. However, the Orioles maintained an 8-3 score. Jordan Westburg added an RBI single to extend the lead. Soto added an RBI single, and the Yanks fought hard as Aaron Judge smashed a three-run home run.
Judge gave his fans some hope at the end of the game, but the Orioles held on and won with a 9-7 final score. Aaron Boone will send Gerrit Cole to the mound in hopes of avoiding a sweep.
