Arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of NFL, Tom Brady is also a huge a baseball fan. At the Fanatics Fest in NYC, he reflected on his hobby of collecting baseball cards as a kid.
While conversing with a seller of Topps baseball cards, Tom Brady credited his hobby of collecting cards with helping him study math. In the short interaction, he said:
"I would say from about the age of 7 to about 17, I only collected baseball cards. I collected kind of my era. Like I had, Don Mattingly was my favorite player Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Wade Boggs, Will Clark, Mark McGwire.
"I was a lefty baby, I had a lot of Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey. This is how I learned all my Maths when I was a kid, looking at the back of everybody's stats, so it was the only thing I studied. I git C's in English and C pluses in Maths."
Brady extensively shared a list of his favorite baseball players from his chidlhood, much to the excitement of fans around him. Rumors have it that the Montreal Expos once selected Brady in the amateur draft in 1995.
Fanatics' Topps released a special feature of Tom Brady in Montreal Expos uniform
Adressing a hypothetical story about Tom Brady and what could have been had he pursued a professional career in baseball, Fanatics' baseball card operation arm, Topps, released a limited edition card of the NFL ace in a Montreal Expos uniform.
Fanatics had acquired the Topps baseball card division in 2022 for a whopping half a billion dollars. The company's most priced prodduct in their annual release are the Bowman draft cards, which features many ballplayers in their rookie seasons.
This set is special, as most of these players didn't make it to the MLB, and among those who did, only some achieved success.
All these factors together make for an amazing card collection venture for baseball fans.
The Topps 2023 Bowman Draft, included 162 Tom Brady cards in the Expos colors. Eighty-one of these cards featured his autograph and have been randomly dispersed across varius sets.
