The New York Yankees pried away two-time All-Star Max Fried from the Atlanta Braves. Fried spent seven and a half seasons in Atlanta but didn't renew his one-year deal offered ahead of the 2024 season.
Yankees stalwart Nick Swisher is happy with the move. The retired outfielder spent four seasons at the Bronx, claiming the World Series title in his first season in 2009. The next year, he was named to his first All-Star team. Swisher couldn't help share his excitement through an Instagram story, writing:
"Welcome to New York MAX FRIED PITCHER"
Swisher shared the official photo of Max Fried's transfer to the Yankees along with a few applause emojis. Ironically, Swisher played for the Atlanta Braves in 2015 during his last season in the majors.
Max Fried has received the most lucrative contract for a left-handed pitcher and fourth most overall in league history. His eight-year $218 million deal will keep him at the Bronx until his age 39 season.
Yankees continue to wreak havoc in hot stove with Cody Bellinger's arrival
After missing out on Juan Soto, the New York Yankees front office has lit up the hot stove this year after making three splash signings.
They traded for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams in exchange for Nestor Cortes Jr. and Caleb Durbin. They also acquired the long term-services of two-time All-Star starter Max Fried from the Atlanta Braves.
However, the biggest splash the Bombers made was the signing of Cody Bellinger. The 2019 National League MVP and former World Series champion was acquired by the Bombers with Cody Poteet and cash considerations going to the Chicago Cubs.
Interestingly, Bellinger became one of a handful of second-generation Bombers. His father, Clay Bellinger, played for the Bronx squad from 1999 to 2001, winning two World Series titles with Joe Torre's juggernaut squad of the late '90s.
Needless to say, Bellinger's arrival would bolster the Yankees' hopes of making another World Series run as they look to win it all.
