Tarik Skubal is delivering a career year for the Detroit Tigers. The 27-year-old righty became a first-time All-Star this summer as he bolsters his AL Cy Young candidacy.

Skubal has the lowest ERA in the American League. He also has the most wins (14 games), the best Win-Loss percentage (.778), and the most strikeouts (185). On Sunday, his latest win came against the New York Yankees in the Little League Classic.

His performance impressed experts and fans alike, including podcaster Ben Verlander, who praised the Tigers ace in his latest Flippin’ Bats with Ben Verlander video on YouTube. The Brother of Justin Verlander called Skubal “the best pitcher” for the current season.

“Tarik Skubal is your current favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award, and forget about the American League, Tarik Skubal is the best pitcher in the game of baseball,” Verlander said. [Time Stamp: 10:36]
“We got a lefty out there throwing at 100 miles an hour, shutting down the New York Yankees in the Little League classic. We got a lefty shutting down every single team he faces. There is no single pitcher better than Tarik Skubal in the game of baseball.”

Tarik Skubal is raising his value with a potential award-winning performance

Tarik Skubal signed a $2.65 million contract this season, avoiding arbitration. Given his recent performance, this deal is significantly undervalued. He still has two arbitration years before testing his free-market worth.

However, if Skubal wins the AL Cy Young this year, his value will skyrocket. During this season’s trade deadline, multiple teams monitored him. However, the Tigers kept Skubal and likely plan to retain his long-term services.

However, if Skubal is traded, he’ll bring a lofty return for the Tigers. For now, Detroit's 60-64 record puts them in fourth place in the AL Central, which means they'll likely miss the upcoming postseason despite Skubal’s stellar performance. This situation might prompt the Tigers to deal their ace for quality rebuild pieces rather than pay a large salary to one player on an otherwise mediocre roster.
