New York Yankees fans are getting somewhat impatient as Aaron Judge is on an unprecedented home-run drought. According to MLB analyst Chris Kirschner, the Bronx Bombers slugger hasn't hit a home run in his last 70 plate appearances, the longest stretch the former AL MVP has gone without hitting one.
While he has already hit a staggering 51 home runs this season (the best mark in the majors this season), Judge not finding the stands with just weeks remaining ahead of the postseason has seemed strange to many given his incredibly high standards.
Another home-run-less outing on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium only compounded fans' feelings:
"Well, there goes any chance of Soto signing with the Yankees. No way he is going to want to play with such a scrub like Judge," one fan commented.
"Judge on fraud watch," added another.
"Bud is thinking its the playoffs too early," one fan said.
"I know they're in the middle of a division race, but either sit him for a day or move him off CF," another fan wrote.
"Washed, might as well DFA him and replace him with a way better hitter: DJ LeMahieu," one fan said.
"I'm gonna be honest, Judge getting Monstar'd by the f***ing Paw Patrol was NOT on my 2024 bingo card...," another fan added.
Aaron Judge not too concerned about lack of home run outings
When Aaron Judge came into the last week of August, he was on pace to reach 63 home runs, which would have broken his own record of 62 home runs, a single-season record for an AL player. However, 16 games have gone by and Judge has not added more to his tally (via Marca.com):
"It's just baseball," Judge said before the Yankees' extra innings victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. "I'm feeling fine, and the results will be there."
"It's just hitting," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "He's still putting together a historic season."
While there's no doubt that Aaron Judge has done extremely well this year, a slump at this point in the season is the last thing Yankees fans want to see.
The four-game series with the Red Sox continues with their second game on Friday.
