The Los Angeles Dodgers will be relying on Shohei Ohtani to continue his postseason form when they face the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
Ohtani has been restricted to being just a designated hitter for the Dodgers after his $700 million deal with the team in the past offseason. He has not been able to showcase his two-way ability as the two-time MVP continued his recovery from elbow surgery last year.
Ohtani's Dodgers teammate Tyler Glasnow, who has had a fair share of elbow issues in his career, reflected on the difficulties of coming back from a second surgery.
Glasnow said on "Foul Territory":
"In terms of the second Tommy John (surgery), it depends on timing-wise, and the second one, the doctors and clearance and stuff are extremely hard to get just because the second (surgery) is six more months. I think the first one is 12-13 months and the second one is 18-20."
"The second one (surgery) is a lot more strict, and I think if you look at it long term too, being a second Tommy John surgery, If you weigh out the future, it's probably not the best idea (rushed into pitching). I think what he's allowed to contribute to or what he has been contributing hitting has been huge."
Glasnow will play nompart in the Dodgers' Fall Classic as the starter was ruled out of the postseason in mid-september after a inflammation in his elbow.
Tyler Glasnow looking forward to next season after premature end to first season with Dodgers
The Dodgers starter was expected to play a part in the team's postseason after the initial assessment in August. However, Glasnow couldn't recover in the time for October baseball.
The start hurler had a positive update on his recovery as he expected to be healthy for spring training next year.
"I just got re-imaged recently and I haven’t thrown in a month and it looks like it’s fully healed … I’m just excited that I’ll be good to go for next year,” Glasnow said.
Despite the elbow injury ending his regular season abruptly, Tyler Glasnow made a career-high 22 starts in his first season with the Dodgers. He will look to build on it in his second year with the team next season.
